A Living Memorial Soil Blend is the combination of cremation ashes (cremains) and a soil mixture designed to protect soil ecology disruptions instigated when cremation ashes are added to soil. The blend allows for the creation of a Living Memorial Tribute with a loved one's ashes.
Please don’t. You’ll end up ruining your soil composition and will stress your planting. Ashes drastically change the soil’s composition. Alkalinity levels will exceed an 11+ pH, you’ll introduce excessive amounts of sodium, and the heavy metals that were absorbed into the ashes during the cremation process will be released. Many plants won't like this change.
Use a ratio of 1 to 2 cups of cremation ashes to 1 Share-pack. The resulting blend will neutralize ashes for scattering. For planting -- mix the blend with 2 gallons of soil. Our Ready-to-use Potting Soil treats a 1/2 cup of ashes.
No, we don’t sell trees or plants, and you don’t need us to. Trust your local nursery for an opinion about your growing environment, your native soil type, and your growing zone. If they recommend a Bumper Crop fertilizer, get it. Our additive will not interfere.
What you can plant depends entirely on your environment. Learn about it, understand it, know your zone, and you’re ready to go. We do urge you to avoid overly genetically altered flowers like roses though, they can be little tarts!
Full instructions are available HERE, but in short – For in-ground burial, dig a hole 3 to 5 times larger than the root ball. Spread your blend along the bottom and press firmly on the floor of the soil. Finish planting the tree as you normally would for our type of soil and zone. Water thoroughly and often. Be prepared to stake a tree later but give it a chance to grow in strength against the wind.
Yes, you can use this for pets or people. Cremains, are cremains, are cremains. There is no fundamental difference in the composition of elements contained in the ashes of mammals.
Yes and No. Our soil mix additives are a combination of organic matter enhanced with natural minerals, as are all other cremation soil mixes. Natural minerals are inorganic therefore we do not meet the government criteria to be certified organic. We do have the highest concentration of organic matter of any cremation ash soil mix additive.
Seeds are not intended to grow in any soil that has a blend of a cremation ash soil mix and soil. The blend is intended for mature plants or trees. Yes it is possible for seeds to germinate, but successful growth to maturity should not be attempted before 120 days has passed and soil has been leached with water.
Yes we will do that for you, however, you or the funeral director, will have to mail your ashes to us, and we will return a Living Memorial Soil Blend in 125 days. There is a $75 service fee.
